Stain-resistant water repellent for marble – “Drai”
Drai is a waterproofing (“water repellent” and “stain-resistant”) product that can be applied on any surface. The remarkable water repellency prevents water from coming into contact with calcium carbonate (a major component of building materials) and therefore avoids degradation by carbonization.
The impossibility of water to penetrate into the capillarity of the building materials will also avoid the cracking of the structures and the formation of algae and mold, and even the polluting substances (aggressive chemicals or dirt) will no longer be able to settle.
Once dried, Drai is invisible thus keeping the natural appearance of the treated materials unaltered.
Drai is an acrylic copolymer modified with fluorinated groups: the acrylic component favors the adhesion to the stone support, while the fluorinated part is positioned towards the outside ensuring hydro and olerepellence. It enters through the capillary pores very deeply: various tests have shown penetrations up to 4 – 5 mm. within the materials. Tests were carried out on different types of substrates such as: cement, cocciopesto mortars, tuff, carparo and various marbles (carrara, bardiglio Fiorito, red Verona, yellow Siena, granite, travertine, etc.), lime-based paints and coatings, marmorino: the results have always been very satisfying.
Once dried it gets invisible – the natural appearance of the materials remains absolutely unchanged. However, preliminary tests on a small area are always necessary to be sure of the final color.
How to use “Drai”?
Safety rules: during application and drying time, ventilate the room thoroughly. We recommend the use of the appropriate PPE during the application phase and to read the safety data sheet carefully
- Clean the surfaces by removing soluble salts, mold, or crumbly parts. The application must be done on dry, cold surfaces and not exposed to strong sun
- Perform a preliminary test on a small area to determine the optimal amount to apply
- Apply the product using low-pressure airless airbrush, brush or roller (in any case, care must be taken that the application is uniform until total impregnation of the surface
- Let the product dry
During application, especially under the mechanical action of the brush or roller, important foams are formed. This reaction, which completely disappears during the drying phase, is not detrimental to the final result, but rather is synonymous with better penetration into the stone.
What is the yield of this product?
The yield is calculated according to the absorption of the substrate to be treated: consumption varying between 100 and 400 g per square meter can be assumed.
