CNC Machine tool length – height setter
Professional CNC machine tool setter to measure tool height on numerically controlled machines.
A tool-length setter (also called a tool-height setter) is a sensor to measure the length or height of tools used on CNC machines, fabrication centers, and CNC lathes. It is compatible with any control having a normally closed (NC) input.
Why use the tool setter in your CNC machine?
Without our setter, a machine operation would be needed to manually measure the length of each tool and save the value in the machine program.
Our tool setter does this automatically, very quickly, and with a precision far superior to that of manual measurement.
Also, when using tools that wear rapidly, such as those of the stone industry, the tool length might vary between one job and the next. This wear may be negligible at times, but in many cases, it could compromise the final result, causing damage and costing money. In this case, the setter is used to “recalibrate” the tool length and compensate for any difference.
CNC tool setter applications:
- Presetting tool length or height
- Measuring tool off-set
- Restarting work after having replaced a tool manually or using an automatic tool changer
- Detecting tool wear
- Detecting tool breakage
Features:
Our tool setter has a round, 20-mm diameter contact surface, but it can also be used to measure tools of diameter greater than 20 mm with no loss of precision.
The device has an air inlet which, if properly configured and guided by the control board, emits a small blast of air through a nozzle to clean the contact surface before the tool itself makes contact with the contact surface. This feature is particularly important on machines that work metal or wood where a shaving attached to the tool or contact surface could result in erroneous tool measurement.
Our CNC tool setter is made entirely of stainless steel; it is dust-tight and water safe with protection code IP68. It can therefore be used safely on any CNC process that envisages the use of water, such as those of marble and granite industries.
The device has a measurement repeatability of 2 microns at a probing speed of 50mm/min.
Electrical connection:
This probe has 2 contacts. The first is a measurement normally closed (NC) contact, the second is a safety normally closed (NC) contact to protect against Over Travel contact, and stops the machine if the tool travel exceeds the allowed tool path. Simply connect the contacts between the relative CN board input and a power source of voltage rated for it. Thanks to this simple connection figuration, the tool length setter is compatible with any board and specifically it is compatible with Heidenhain, Fanuc, OSAI, Siemens, Mach3, Twintec Colibrì, QEM Rosetta, and many others.
